And you Thought Red Bull was Bad for your Health

Sometimes video game tie-ins work, other times not so much. I'll admit it. I had an addiction to Mountain Dew's Halo 3 Game Fuel when it was released, and a bit of a relapse when it was rebranded with World of Warcraft characters. But, Game Fuel, unlike Square Enix's latest creepy beverage, didn't appear as though you were sucking the lifeblood out of you're favorite Spartan leader.

Starting on July 13, soft drink maker Suntory will sell Syrupy Slime beverages in Japan. Coming in two flavors Hoimi Cider and Mera Tropical, which translated into English are popular Dragon Quest spells heal and frizz respectively, will be sure to provide Japanese school children with enough sugar to stay up and play their DS's for days at a time.

Aside from a stomachache, consumers of these questionable beverages will be able to unlock an in-game item for the Wii game Dragon Quest Monster Battle Road Victory, presuming they have a DSi with the DQ Color Code Scanner. Sometimes I'm jealous of Japanese gaming merch that never comes stateside, but this time around I won't be upset if their syrupy goo stays in the Land of the Rising Sun.
